Hey everybody! Due to a double booking at Ralphs this Monday, the 4 time WoMag “Best of” Poetry Series will be moving to NICK’s BAR at 124 Millbury Street, Worcester FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY!!!! So excited to check out some new fancy digs for an evening!

maya New York native MAYA PHILLIPSs 2010 and 2011 slam teams. She competed for the Boston Poetry Slam at the National Poetry Slam in Cambridge and Boston as a member of the 2011 team. Maya holds her BFA in Writing, Literature and Publishing with a concentration in poetry from Emerson College, where she completed a creative thesis in poetry and an academic thesis examining gender roles and the portrayal of women in Greek drama. She is a freelance writer/copy editor and also works at the Academy of American Poets. She lives in Brooklyn, NY. This is Maya’s first time featuring in Worcester, so let’s pack NICK’s and make sure that her brief New England Tour is a memorable one!

BONUS RUCKUS: IRON POET QUALIFIER – We’re still working on confirming both qualifier candidates, but this is sure to be a brilliant match up! Two poets get a secret ingredient at the beginning of the night! They each prepare three poetic concoctions, haiku, short poem and an incorporation, where they take the ingredient and include it into a poem they’ve read at the Gerund before! At the end of the first half, they serve up their creations to the audience and three judges who give a score based on taste, presentation and of course, use of the secret ingredient. Insanity or inanity ensues. Poet with the highest cumulative score, earns the right to face Champion NICHOLAS EARL DAVIS in next month’s championship! Oh no, YOSH SHARTIN will not be at Nick’s Bar to give us an ingredient. I’m calling an armored truck company, talking security guards with brief cases cuffed to the wrist! We go in…. the kitchen!

One night only house band in the works! Visual arts will be had! Good times! NICK’s BAR sells really fine cocktails and the best pretzels in town. If you want burgers? Eat ahead of time. Just saying! Parking is pretty plentiful on Millbury Street. Out door patio in back for those who enjoy fresh air. Let’s all dress up a bit. Our bar man Sean will be rocking a tie, why don’t you? Open mic’s have been packed lately, get down by 8:30 to assure yourself a spot! Join us! So rare that we’re outta our comfort zone! Come heckle us there! 🙂
