Monday! 9/12/11 BOBBY GIBBS reppin! Musical Guest Randos from Boston! Plus “Poem or Wrestling Promo?” Quiz Show!!!

He’s big, he’s loud, he tells you where he’s coming from… all the time! Sometimes he tells it with a raw composure that convinces you that art comes from the places we don’t like to look at. This Monday, Dirty Gerund finally features our Iron Poet Champion ROBERT BLACKWELL GIBBS (aka Bobby) who was just crowned Worcester Representative to the 2011 Individual World Poetry Slam Tournament, happening next month in Cleveland Ohio. Bobby’s sharp imagery and passionate delivery took out some of Worcester’s best performance poets, to earn his spot to rep the 5-0-8, so we thought we’d take some time to celebrate that and help Bobby raise some gas money to get himself to Ohio! Bobby blasted onto the scene back in 2003 and immediately made an impact with gritty tails of growing up, from Lake Side to Main Street. It was a powerful, distinctly Worcester Voice. Bobby made his way onto the Worcester Slam Team in 2005, and has represented our city (with one pit stop in Providence) almost every year since. He helmed the After 9 reading series at the Hotel Vernon for years, before hanging up the captains hat. He enjoys a pint, he enjoys talking to you, he enjoys telling it like he sees it and has been a Dirty Gerund booster since the beginning. He’s planning to have some CD’s and chap-books on hand and hopes that his home town will come through to help him get to Cleveland!

MUSICAL GUEST: THE RANDOS were introduced to the Boston music scene in 2011, where they immediately commanded attention with their female-fronted, full throttle rock ‘n’ roll. Led by two accomplished songwriters with divergent musical tastes, The Randos are able to channel everyone from Stone Temple Pilots and Foo Fighters to VersaEmerge and Taking Back Sunday. The result is memorable, classic rock riffs complemented by strong …vocal hooks and clever lyrical wordplay. In the summer of 2011, The Randos translated their dynamic live show into a debut EP, We’re Not The Same, which instantly garnered radio airplay and critical praise. Though still a young group, members of The Randos have opened for national acts including Fall Out Boy, Automatic Loveletter, The Dear Hunter, Socratic, Sainthood Reps and Black Gold. BONUS RUCKUS: “Wrestling Promo or Poem?!” Quiz Show Challenge! Your curator NICHOLAS EARL DAVIS is no closet wrestling fan, he LOVES that shit! WCW, ECW, WWF, WWE, NWA, WFFFCW, CWDGW, whatever league, he’s seen a DVD of it and gets enchanted by big sweaty men who sometimes speak their rabble so eloquently, that a poet of certain persuasions can’t help but get caught up in the circus verse! So here’s the deal. Nick’s gonna perform a line in his best “well you know Mean Gene!!!” macho voice! Is it a classic wrestling promo line, or is Nick taking a line of actual poetry and masking it? First to three guesses correctly wins a pile driver, I mean, cool prize! Ooooooh Yeah!!!

Word is MARK LEIGHTON is joining the DG DUCT TAPE BAND! We miss LARRY WILSON, but are souped to get some guitar (they never want to give me cow bell). YOSH & CHICKEN are serving you the best in burgers and drinks anyways! We have a visual artist lined up! Snacks? (Talk to Emilee if intersted)! The fall line-up is almost complete (you humble bookers have been booking like earnest book-makers!) we’re really excited about every show on the horizon! We’re nearing our two year anniversary, bringing you the best possible show possible, help us get the word out! We’ll have flyers and some posters if you want to take one and tape it up to let em know! And yeah, Nick misses you or something!
