9/20/10 IT’S OUR ANNIVERSARY! Celebrate good times w/ McKENDY FILS AMIE from NH! PLUS MISS DIRTY GERUND PAGEANT & SPECIAL MUSICAL GUEST JOY RACHELLE BAND!

EVERY MONDAY NIGHT IS SPECIAL IN DG LAND, but this MONDAY’S JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE SO!
ME & NICK ARE CELEBRATING OUR ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF SWABBING THE POOP DECKS ON THIS MIGHTY SHIP! WE GOT A LOT OF SHOW FOR YA’LL SO WE’RE TRYING TO START AT 9PM SHARP!

McKENDY FILS AMIE is making his way down 495 to join us from Manchester, Hampshire to feature us proper! Member of the 2009 Worcester Poetry Slam Team (sandwiched between stints on the 2008 & 2010 Manchester “Slam Free of Die” Teams…. mmmm….. sandwich). McKendy delivers highly imaginative narratives performed with a controlled passion, unmatched by many of his performance poetry piers. A full time student and full time metaphor spinner, McKendy is also a pop tart enthusiast! He loves candy, pastries, cake, and ice cream. He also has a sweet tooth for poetry. Help us help him indulge that sweet tooth! We’ve embedded a fantastic performance from his trip to the 2010 National Poetry Slam in Minnesota!

SPECIAL MUSICAL GUESTTHE JOY RACHELLE BAND – When indie folk rockster Joy Rachelle was a little girl, she used to wake up in her crib and sing to herself, things really haven’t changed much since then… Recently graduated from Crown College in Minnesota with a Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Studies and Vocal Performance. Joy typically writes her songs on guitar, but is falling more in love with her ukulele every day. She has been part of the Fallout’s Annual Art Festival in Minneapolis, and has also performed in venues across Minnesota. Joy has recently been featured on two ukulele websites (ukudaily.com and ukecanplay.com) and also plays monthly at Acoustic Java. www.myspace.com/joyrachelle f0r more info.

BONUS RUCKUS – The 2nd Annual MISS DIRTY GERUND PAGEANT!!! Who will follow in Jackie Morrill’s high heeled footsteps? The Dirty Gerund has way too much testosterone going on on any given night and we need a special lady to fully represent the representation! This is no vapid, hooter’s girl, hawaiian tropic, stuffed bikini dance around not knowing your own state’s capital. We love intelligent, independent, outgoing, opinionated women word gangsters. So…. just like last year, there will be three categories. TALENT – it can be a performance poem, but does not have to be. 5 minutes to show us what you got creatively. REVERSE PANDERING – we are unashamedly pandering to our poetic sisters, pander us back just a little bit with an original haiku about how adequate our show is. INTERVIEW – it takes a special type of sass to navigate a conversation with our indefatigable co-host Nick Davis. Answer 3 special questions and you may pirouette yourself to victory. A panel of judges will decide who best represents us. A new Miss DG will be crowned and showered in praise and well-meaning promises of grander things. We’re making our own sash! The categories will be interspersed throughout the evening. Candidates must sign up before 9pm so we can plan this out!

YOSH & CHICKEN are in the cocktail biz, patronize them! Brian & Martin provide the jazzy backdrop for the open mic. NOTICE: This is gonna be a busy night! To keep the show from spilling into tuesday, Miss DG pageant candidates cannot read in the open mic. Also open mic-ers must keep it at one poem. We will vigorously officiate and do our best to keep things moving! Now, we’ll leave you to enjoy our special guest folkster yuke a brilliant cover of Edith Piaf’s “La Vie En Rose.”
