Monday August 2nd – LIZ HEATH brings the Worcester Ruckus PLUS IRON POET PRELIMINARY!

This Monday, the Dirty Gerund recovers from last week’s international poetic blitzkrieg german new wave bop, by showcasing one of Worcester’s most important up and becoming voices. Liz Heath is one of the co-hosts of the Sunday Evening Poet’s Asylum Poetry Slam & Open Reading Series at the NuCafe on Chandler Street. A finalist for past Worcester Poetry Slam Teams, Liz has become a fixture on the Worcester Spoken Word Scene by crafting heartfelt work, sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking, always honest and sincere. Liz is taking on more organizing responsibilities for the Worcester Poetry Slam and has rocked our open mic’s before. She’s got a couple chap-books in her repertoire and it’s high time we featured her work! She loves her family, silly movies and penguins. Worcester will not be participating at the National Poetry Slam next week in St. Paul, Minnesota, but that doesn’t mean we can’t bring the Nationals Style Ruckus this Monday!

BONUS RUCKUSIRON POET CHALLENGER PRELIMINARY – “WORSTER vs. DAVIS” – sounds like a pending court case, but no, Dirty Gerund Veteran MELISSA WORSTER (of the Worcester Worsters) is taking her first shot at Iron Poet Glory by facing off against our venerable co-host, NICK DAVIS who wants another crack at the title. The winner, faces off against current champion BOBBY GIBBS in a few weeks. 3 rounds, 3 judges, 3 categories… poetic concoctions based on secret ingredients! you know the rest!

Adam and Martin from What the Funk are rocking out famously in their August DG Residency, filling in for the touring Shane Hall. They blended in seamlessly this past Monday alongside drummer Ben Daniel to provide an incredible backdrop for our open mic and post reading jam! The boys will be back next week to funk our ish as YOSH and CHICKEN continue to extinguish our collective fires with frosty libations! Snack-time? Contacts us and come through!
