JULY 19th – NICKY HOLDS DOWN THE FORT! w/ help from DANIELLE CARRIVEAU! Are You Listening?!
This Monday Night! The Dirty Gerund is proud to welcome 2009 Worcester Slam Team Member, DANIELLE CARRIVEAU, multi-talented artist who currently resides in Western Massachusetts. Danielle returned to slam poetry after a 15 year hiatus (an early Boston Slam Veteran) and immediately made an lasting impression on us Worcesterites with honest, well crafted work delivered with all the passion and grace you could ever want! An excellent photographer, visual artist and writer, Danielle has re-engaged her performance poetry career, garnering invitations to perform across the region and hosting her own series in Northampton. Tough, smart and heart breakingly poignant, Danielle’s a voice not to be missed!
I’m on VACATION! Not really. But I will be missing you from afar this Monday Night, as I chaperon and coach the 2010 Worcester Youth Poetry Slam Team to the 2010 Brave New Voices International Youth Festival in Los Angeles California! (photo of me losing it when judges give my teams bad scores!) These amazing teen poets keep me young and inspire me to keep raising my own form of poetic ruckus. Who knows, maybe one of this years team members will take over the Gerund when Nick, Shane & I retire in 5 years with all our crazy poet money! check out www.worcesteryouthslam.com for info on a special regional poetry slam event me and Nick are running this saturday afternoon! These young voices bring the words! Come support the next generation of shenanigans!
BONUS RUCKUS – Third installment of the “ARE YOU LISTENING” POETRY TRIVIA GAME – 3 contestants will answer questions about things happening at our show. First to answer 3 of Nick’s queries gets a beverage on us (keep in mind, we purchase the beverage, we don’t wear the beverage, you’d be surprised how necessary that disclaimer is!)
LAST WEEK’S SHOW RIPPED STITCHES FROM DOWNTOWN HOSPITALS AND SET OFF FIRE ALARMS ACROSS THE STREET! HELP NICK AND SHANE AND CREW KEEP THAT MOMENTUM GOING! The open mic was packed and full of fantastic! Sara Brickman rocked! And we had true hard-core gypsy folk rocksters, “The Homeless People” throw down mad accordian, violin and washboard (complete with bicycle bell attached) jams all night! We bared witness to the triumphant return of Justin Bowse (he was on vacation at his Home Depot Job) and his keyboard stylings! Ben Daniel is holding things down on drums! And Shane? Well he can still kick a blistering 87 bar rap verse like nobody in the country folk rock at a poetry show biz! Home Made Whoopi Pie Snacktime! Yosh and Chicken can hardly pour ’em fast enough! I’m sure Nick can use all your love and help this Monday (Snack Time bringer &/or passer outer, collection plate juggler, designated trivia game question asker….) Oh Camera Phone! Maybe one day you can be a real camera! 😉
