JUNE 28th, 2010 – MARLON CAREY’S INPHYNIT! Plus the “HOLY HOT SONNET SAUCE” Challenge!!!

Don’t say we never listen to you! This week the DG is proud to bring back a poet who set our open mic ablaze a couple weeks ago! Coming in for a full feature is MARLON CAREY a.k.a. INPHYNIT! Marlon is currently holding the Lizard Lounge’s (in Cambridge) King title, a member of the 2009 (and 2010) Boston Lizard Lounge Poetry Slam Team. WATCH HIM PERFORM HERE! Named best Hip Hop Poet by the Cambridge Poetry Awards two years in a row, he has been the Boston Cantab Lounge’s “Grand Slam Champion” and performed with the Jeff Robinson Trio. With a blend of eclectic themes, wordplay and wit, Marlon concocts a magical brew of fun with words. Marlon has published three chapbooks: Giraffe Theory (2000), Prolegomenon (2003) and Lazarus (2007). He has also released an EP entitled There Is No Plan, Be., which includes poetry and hip hop tracks. Carey has a BFA in Creative Writing and is embarking on his first tour of the United States, called the Mammoth Tour, in December 2009. Also known as Inphynit, hip hop poet Marlon Carey brings a refreshing twist on performance poetry. The name represents Carey’s unlimited talent and boundless energy. It also reflects his world view of the possibilities for peace, art and performance: All limitless, all infinite. Carey’s hip hop-esque flow, poignant, clever lyrics and fun rhyme patterns are blended artfully to create a unique presentation. Known across the New England area in most poetry venues and open mic cafes, Inphynit is on a mission to help spread the seeds of the Spoken Word Movement and continue the Oral Tradition. BONUS RUCKUS – First Annual “HOLY HOT SONNET SAUCE!CHALLENGE!!! Why should Adam Richman from Man vs Food have all the inferno fun? We’re bringing 3 intensely insane hot sauces in varying degrees to make up 3 rounds of DAMN! Three competitors will take a shot of sauce and spit flames performing Shakespeare Sonnets. You have to get through the whole sonnet without succumbing to the heat! No milk, popsicles or pauses to assist you until you get through the sonnet. Last tongue standing wins a tasty prize and our demented admiration!

We may have a super surprise snack-time guest this week! Stay tuned! Shane Hall & Crew will be on hand kickin’ tasty grooves and getting our backs as only he can!
