OCT 26th – WHAT U REALLY KNOW BOUT PROVIDENCE?! – MEGAN THOMA EDUCATES THE GERUND!
Megan Thoma is a writer and teacher in Providence, RI. Her students don’t believe teachers are real human beings that “drive cars or have dance parties in their basements.” She does both these things. She is very, very real.
A lover of art forms combining and combusting, Megan created the show INK, a creative exploration of the written word through performance, video, music, art, dance, and theatre. The show ran three times between 2003-2005, each production with a unique cast and collection of writing.
She has won the Babbitt’s Prize for Short Fiction, and her work can be found in the Little White Poetry Journal and on McSweeney’s Internet Tendency. She edited the literary journal, Tributaries, for two years and also founded the Tongue & Ink Writers’ Conference.
Megan has recently joined the slam poetry community and has performed all over New England and the United States. She is Providence’s 2009 Grand Slam Champ and represented the city at the 2009 National Poetry Slam and 2009 Individual World Poetry Slam.
Sometimes she gets to hang out with really cool people. She attributes this to the fact that she is mildly attractive and has mastered the art of the well-timed vagina joke.
